I was very young and rode my old Murray bike to the house show somewhere in West Oakland. The bike was a gift from my dad. We didn’t have much, but it didn’t matter. When leaving the show, I saw my bike scuffed and lying on the ground. Everywhere I looked, I saw some pretentious bike messenger clone staring back at me as if they believed my bike didn’t belong there. As I asked who knocked my bike over, no one would give me a straight answer. This modest bike was a gift from the heart and all my dad could afford. This bike means a lot more to me than your overpriced fixie will ever mean to you.
